things to make for other people and then keep

I am really proud of this hoodie, it's super warm and cozy. The pattern was "Hacky Sack Hoodie" from Son of Stitch n' Bitch. It started out for my brother but after I used the noro on the sleeves I decided that it was a girls hoodie and kept it. One thing I thought was really neat about the pattern was you start at the top of the hood and work your way down and which helps me because I like long sweaters so it's easier to measure.
This scarf gets a lot of attention when I tell people I knitted it because it really doesn't look knit. I got the pattern from that tv show on DYI, Knitty Gritty. I cast on 400 stitches and you knit it up and down instead of side to side... that doesn't make sense when I say it but... you get the idea. I really should have been more careful with the cast off, it's too tight so the scarf kind of archs, but I don't mind. The yarn was 51% silk and is suprisingly warm. I made this for my parents employee but we didn't make it to the birthday party because of weather and my parents only give birthday presents to employees when they go to the party so I got to keep it. SCORE!

Baby blanket, wine cozies, AND what to do when you've lost your 5th needle!

So I could have just used 4 needles, but that's just too easy. So I used a head massager thing that my boyfriends mom had. Fun stuff...
Baby blanket for my cousins new baby very nice easy pattern
I'm making wine cozies for my extended family. We are sending gift baskets and these are my contributions.

Yarn!

This is some stuff from Fae Ridge Farms I got for graduation from my nice neighbors. The tag for the roving says:
Luxury Blend
8oz cloud (I got 2)
$20.00
Barn Swallow (I think that's the name of the colors)
Coopworth and Wensleydale
Lamb's Wool (Lucy and Walter)
Yearling Mohair (Hattie and Daisy)
Tussah silk, Silk Noils and Angelica
Not exactly sure what all that means but... so it goes
asdfHere is some yarn I spun for the craft guild. I don't know what it is, my mom just gave it to me and told me to spin it... so I did. For the lighter blue I took some of the dark blue and carded it with white, it was fun.

SOCKS

This is my first pair of socks. I knitted them about 5 or 6 years ago and will probably be giving them to my mother as a Christmas present because I'm cheap like that. They are kinda huge but work really well as a slipper kinda thing.

Some Projects

I don't know why everything is being underlined but here are some projects that I think are going to be Christmas presents I don't know for who yet. The color is off in a lot of these pictures because of the lighting in my roomThis is a scarf for someone. I got the idea from a Banana Republic scarf that costs $60 and then replicated it for $15. I'm thinking Grandpa Dave....
Here is the Scarf up close and the real color of it

This neck warmer started out as a blanket and then I got sick of it, so I added a button and now it's a neck warmer.

Yarn Dying today

Today I dyed Cotton yarn with things I found it my house. I used beet juice, blackberries, merrigolds, Iron Oxide, Blue pen ink (red cabbage and vinegar works but I didn't have any red cabbage so... yea), and paprika. Here are some pictures of what I did. It was messy so be prepared for some clean up if you try it.
BEET JUICE (THE PINKER PART) AND BLACKBERRIES (THE PURPLER PART)

MERRIGOLDS AND IRON OXIDE

So that's that, it was fun. I'm hoping to make some green tomorrow and do something with red cabbage.

the reversable tube scarf with matching hat!

I made this one for my boyfriend because he didn't have anything warm to wear. He really likes both the hat and scarf. They are both very warm and great for those hard winters. It was a really easy knit too. I just made two tube scarfs sewed them together and then made two hats and sewed them together. Great project for any beginner looking for something easy but new. I only have pictures of the scarf right now but someday in the future I will post pictures of the hat too.
